Delayed: Bang To The Boogie EP
Due to an unforeseen sample clearance issue, we are sorry to announce that all digital versions of the song “Today” and all printed CDs have to be withdrawn from online and offline shells.
Don’t worry; we are working hard to find a suitable solution for all parties involved. The Bang to the Boogie EP has not been cancelled, it has just delayed for a few weeks. Please be patient as we work to quickly resolve the issue.
Thank you for your understanding,
- Ryan
Analog T-Shirt Published in Design Collection
I just received word this morning from Rockport Publishers that the Beats Broke Analog T-Shirt is included in their new book entitled 1,000 Garment Graphics by Jeffrey Everett! Hot damn!
“Finally there is a one-stop source with all the coolest graphics on T-shirts, handbags, scarves, pants, onesies—you name it. If it can be worn, it can have a cool graphic element. This book offers designers a vast collection of inspiring and innovative graphic works from the real world, featuring trends as well as graphics that endure the test of time.”
I have yet to receive my physical copies, but I discovered on Amazon they even used the Analog design for the book’s table of contents:
The 320 page paperback was released May 1, 2009 and is currently on sale at Amazon.com for only $26.40 (with free shipping).
The O.G. T-Shirt is available in our store for the low price of $17.99. It’s now officially fresh.

Skiggy Rapz signs to Beats Broke + Album Pre-Sale Code!
In what amounts to the shotgun-wedding version of an artist signing, Beats Broke is proud to annouce our newest artist Skiggy Rapz!
We’ve been fans of Skiggy Rapz since we heard him on Arts The Beatdoctor’s Fragments and Transitions releases. We specificly requested he make an appearance on Progressions. We even dragged his ass to Texas to attend SXSW in March. Well, enough wasn’t enough, and we demanded more Skiggy! It’s been far too long since he dropped Boat Drinks. :)
With that we are pround to present Skiggy Rapz – Bang To The Boogie EP on Tuesday, May 12. Included are nine of the freshest tracks you’ll hear this summer, including guest appearances by Annemarie and Tinusz (of Leaf), plus remixes by Inf and Arts The Beatdoctor. To make it even better, you can pick up the CD or Digital albums for only $8.99 in our store!
But wait, there’s more! From now until Tuesday, use the discount code “headphones” to get your choice of the CD or MP3 version of the album for only $5 (USD). For you Europeans out there, that’s only €3.72 (EUR) by today’s exchange rate. You can hardly use a public restroom in Europe for that…so what are you waiting for? Buy yourself a copy before the code expires on the album’s release date of May 12.
Beats Broke: #2 Austin Record Label
Beats Broke was voted the second best record label in Austin at the 2008-2009 Austin Music Awards, hosted by the Austin Chronicle, during SXSW 2009! Thank you so much to our fans, family, and everyone in-between who voted for us. Last year we were voted the fifth best label in Austin, so we’re obviously killing it on the reg.
No thanks, however, go out to Fat Caddy Records who have been holding us down for the past two years. Last year we let you have it; we were new on the scene and didn’t want to get greedy. We let you have the number one spot, and opted for a considerate middle-ground as the fifth best label in Austin. This year, though, you felt it necessary to withhold that framed certificate from us. Now, it’s personal. IT’S ON FAT CADDY RECORDS!
You are the Scottie Pippen to our Michael Jordan…no, wait…you are Horace Grant. Yeah, I said it…Horace Grant! You’ll be busy polishing your Rec Specs at home while we’re slamming it down from the free throw line with our tongue out at next year’s Austin Music Awards. I hope you like quiet evenings alone with your wife, Jon, because you’re going to have a lot of them in the future. BOOM!
No, but seriously, you’re going down…
SXSW Q&A with Arts The Beatdoctor
Here’s another bit of old news (did I mention that SXSW kicked my ass and put me about 10 days behind in life?). It’s an interview with Arts The Beatdoctor by our good friend Ana Wolken at AustinSoundCheck.com. Even SoleSides.com gives us a shout out in the comments section!
-Ryan
The hip-hop lineup at SXSW 2009 is an impressive one. MCs and DJs from across the globe will be trekking to Austin next week, bringing with them a style that U.S. hip-hop fans aren’t as familiar with as we should be.
Arts the Beatdoctor and other European turntablists like him have a sound that is distinctly different from a lot of the beats coming out of the U.S. these days. Mainstream U.S. hip-hop has become a parody of itself, but outside the borders that spawned the genre, hip-hop is thriving.
Surprising as it may seem, Arts the Beatdoctor’s label (Beats Broke) is based in Austin. Beats Broke has recognized the talent in Arts and his Dutch brethren. Read on after the jump for an interview with Arts the Beatdoctor, where he discusses U.S. versus European hip-hop as well as other Dutch hip-hop artists we should be on the lookout for.
SXSW 2009 Wrap Up: Arts The Beatdoctor’s Video Blog
SXSW 2009 has been over for a week now, and I’m finally back on my feet after the intense 10-day Dutch invasion. Arts The Beatdoctor and In Stereo killed Red Fez, Karma Lounge, Friends of Sound, and even a boat party. DJ Bojcot was as hungry as ever, spinning dubstep anywhere (at anytime) with his vinyl on hand. He even rushed the stage after Camp Lo finished their set to keep the party going late into the night. By the way, Camp Lo are the nicest dudes ever.
I could go on and on, but why should I when Arts the Beatdoctor constructed a nice multi-part video blog of the entire trip! See if you can spot my hooptie.
Again, not enough thanks can go out to the bands and crew who made the trip to Austin such a success. I wouldn’t have been able to make this happen without you. Habek!
New Pax & Pry Record: On-Sale Now!
The latest from Pax & Pry, A Day Off, is for sale in our store!
This follow-up to 2007′s A Day at the Office takes the form of a limited-edition 300 vinyl pressing. Since I’m keeping one for myself, and I’m pretty sure Pax & Pry are too, that leaves only 297 copies for the general public to purchase.
If you’re starv’n like Marvin, broke as a joke, you can download the album for free at www.paxandpry.com. The instrumentals and acapellas are also available for you DJs and Producers to get your freak on.
Dirty it up some.
